The Zakat you entrusted us with in Ramadan is already in action! In August the distribution team distributed a total of £84,723 after processing 134 live applications. This makes our total number of cases thus far 1,562 and total distribution since 2011 now stands at £1,727,186. The majority of cases this month relate to homelessness, debt and domestic abuse. Moreover, we are starting to see the arrival of asylum seekers from Iraq; many simply need help navigating the system to apply for asylum whilst others require assistance in the interim period whilst their applications are processed. You can help us to make a difference by joining our team as a Volunteer Caseworker. Click here to apply.
“We have moved home after staying in emergency accommodation for 7 weeks. Alhamdulillah the house is not too bad. We have received interim cash support as well. Thank you for your generous support during our destitution. We cannot tell you how much we appreciate the assistance you offered in our hour of need. We will always be grateful for all that you have done to help us. May Allah shower His blessings upon all of you and may Allah reward you well for the support that you offered us. Jazak Allah khair.” Jamila, Bradford.
Tour with Imam Zaid Shakir
In August we had the privilege of hosting Imam Zaid Shakir from the USA for a special tour across three cities: London, Manchester and Birmingham. ‘Community at the Crossroads: essential lessons to help us secure our future,’ provided a platform for the community to come together to discuss the socio-economic, political and spiritual challenges that we face today. Thank you to all attendees, volunteers and partners who helped to make the tour a success. If you would like to volunteer for future events, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.

National Food Policy
Poverty is forcing people to have dangerously poor diets and is leading to the return of rickets and gout – diseases of the Victorian age that affect bones and joints – according the UK Faculty of Public Health. The public health professionals’ body will call for a national food policy, including a sugar tax, as concerns rise over malnutrition and vitamin deficiencies in British children. It will also appeal for all political parties to back a living wage to help combat the illnesses. . . Read more on the NZF blog.
