Do I pay Zakat on the interest I have accrued in my bank account?
Despite the explicit prohibition in the Qur’an and Sunnah of dealing with interest, if a person still engaged in interest dealings and received interest, it is not subject to Zakat. Every effort should be made to avoid such type of account. However if one is genuinely unable to do so, then the interest amount could channelledthrough other voluntary charity such as a victim’s court/legalcosts, medical costs to save someone’s life etc.
