Q: Is Zakat due on a bonds and treasury bills?
A: Bonds and treasury bills are interest-bearing debts and are prohibited. They are not Shariah compliant. However, Zakat is payable on the principal amount of the bond (cost of the bond), whereas the entire amount of interest should be donated for charitable purposes.
