Q: I have a zakat query on behalf of my mum. My mum owns gold jewellery, however she receives tax credits and child benefit which she uses to make ends meet in terms of running the household. She does not have any other income apart from this. Would she be eligible to pay zakat considering her circumstances? I would be grateful for your reply. JazakAllah Khair
A: If she has money and gold equal to or more than the Nisab, then yes, she would have to pay Zakat. To make it easy, she may split the Zakat payments in instalments.
