But why is a national Zakat system needed?
Right now, thousands of Muslims across the UK are struggling to make ends meet, but most Zakat is sent overseas, leaving local needs unmet in the communities where we live.
Together, we’re creating a future where every Muslim knows their community is there for them in times of need.
Through our volunteer programme, you’ll support NZF and help build the local networks that make our communities stronger.
You don’t need any experience—just your time and enthusiasm! We’ll give you comprehensive training and ongoing support to help you make a real difference.

NZF Student Ambassador
Student Ambassadors act as representatives of NZF within their university community, helping to increase awareness of local Zakat, NZF services and opportunities for students to engage with and benefit from NZF’s work.
NZF Mosque Ambassador
Mosque Ambassadors help strengthen relationships between NZF and local mosques, ensuring communities are aware of NZF services, educational opportunities and ways to engage with local Zakat.
NZF Community Advocate
Community Advocates help raise awareness of NZF within their local communities by identifying opportunities to engage community groups, organisations and networks beyond university and mosque settings.
Zakat Friend: Support Muslims by:
- Helping people apply for Zakat support
- Assisting our Community Zakat Programme partners to distribute local Zakat
Zakat Presenter: Share knowledge and build understanding in your area by:
- Completing our comprehensive Zakat training programme
- Giving talks about why local Zakat strengthens your local Muslim community
