What’s involved?

Take part in a fun, five mile sponsored walk across London or Manchester to help raise funds for our Winter Campaign 2013. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to visit a soup kitchen for the homeless and will end the walk with a hot meal to help warm you up!

Where will the walks take place?

LONDON – SUNDAY 15th DECEMBER 2013
3pm – 9:30pm

Participants will gather at East London Mosque at 3pm for registration and briefing.

Maghrib will be prayed before setting off.

Midway checkpoint will be a visit to a soup kitchen for the homeless.

Participants will return via a different route for re-registration and Isha prayer at approximately 7:30pm.

Hot food will be served along with inspiring talks and presentations so you can find out more about how the funds you have raised will help those in need this winter.

The event will end at 9:30pm insha’Allah.

MANCHESTER – SATURDAY 21st DECEMBER 2013
3pm – 9:30pm

Participants will gather at British Muslim Heritage Centre at 3pm for registration and briefing.

Maghrib will be prayed before setting off.

Midway checkpoint will be a visit to a soup kitchen for the homeless.

Participants will return to British Muslim Heritage Centre via a different route for re-registration and Isha prayer at approximately 7:30pm.

Route:

For both London and Manchester, we will suggest a planned route for participants and aim to set off in groups together. However, participants can also plan their own route with a group of friends together.

Both journeys should take between 2 and 2.5 hours to complete.

Alternative option for sisters

If you would like to take part in a dedicated walk for sisters only starting after Asr at 1.40pm and ending at Maghrib, please express your interest by emailing numaan.mahmood@nzf.org.uk

Please note we will endeavour to accommodate a sisters’ only walk if we have a minimum of 10 sisters participating in each location, so tell your friends and family! We encourage sisters to come in groups or with a mahram.

Why should I participate?

This winter, many vulnerable individuals and families right here in the UK will be forced to choose between keeping warm or having enough food to eat. Rising energy bills and increasing food prices are a reality for everyone, but this becomes an even greater challenge for poverty stricken families when the temperature drops outside.

Your efforts will help change this reality for thousands in need this winter as we will be able to support the most vulnerable members of our community through the harsh winter months.

How can I sign up?

To get involved in this fantastic event all you need to do is raise a minimum of £150 through sponsorship and other means by the end of January 2014.

Once you have registered you will be sent an email with the following details:

– How to set up your fundraising page on our website.

– Links to print/download sponsorship forms.

– The location of the soup kitchen along the route where you will have the opportunity to help serve food to the homeless.

– Logistical information e.g. venue details, parking arrangements etc.

Eligibility Criteria:

Participants must be at least 16 years old (a child under this age can participate in the walk if accompanied by an adult insha’Allah).

A £10 registration fee must be paid to secure your place.
