The blessed month of Muharram (lit. ‘sanctified’) is the first month of the Islamic calendar and is one of the four sacred months concerning which Allah says: Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve [lunar] months in the register of Allah [from] the day He created the heavens and the earth; of these, four are sacred. That is the correct religion, so do not wrong yourselves during them… [Qur’an 9:36] Transgression in these months is more serious whilst good deeds bring a greater reward. So let us strive this month to fulfil our obligations and make up for any missed fasts, prayers and Zakat. If you have any questions regarding your Zakat, email us on firstname.lastname@example.org and our team will be happy to help.
Zakat distribution update
We have seen a rise in urgent cases related to homelessness which correlates to the change in weather; as the weather is becoming colder, vulnerable people are finding it more difficult to manage without shelter. Other applicants are finding it difficult to make the transition from being street homeless to being housed in permanent accommodation, because they can’t access funds to cover their advance rent and deposit payments.
In the last month we have distributed £80,368 of Zakat funds to deserving members of the UK Muslim community. We currently have 135 live cases, making our total number of cases 1,702, with a total Zakat distribution of £1,888, 612. If you would like to join our team of caseworkers and volunteer your time to alleviate poverty on your doorstep, apply here.
